This roasting pit is within 100' of the Potosi Canyon Road and not far from the Potosi Mine.
Site 2 (several miles south of site 1) - Possible Hunting Blind

In the area of the "possible" hunting blind above we found 5 cairns ranging in size from 1 to 1.5 meters tall. The few that we looked at closely did not have any obvious significance other than they were all at approximately the same elevation. Also in the same area were the remnants of an old shack or camp. |
These 3 little guys managed to escape the BLM "round up of everything that moved" a few years ago.
Banana Yucca (Yucca baccata)

This yucca plant was important to Native Americans of the American Southwest in many ways. The fruits were used for food, eaten raw or baked, and the young flower stalks were eaten similar to how we eat asparagus. The leaf fibers were made into cordage, mats, clothing, or incorporated into baskets, and made excellent paintbrushes for decorating pottery. The roots were dried, pounded, then whisked into cold water to create suds, which were used for shampoo and spiritual cleansing of the body. |
