Nevada Rock Art

The boundaries for the

"Southern Nevada Rock Art" section of our web site.

From time to time we get inquiries (usually from researchers) as to what we consider to be "Southern Nevada".  The map below should help clarify the area where we travel to view rock art for this web site.

Southern Nevada Rock Art Sites:  The northernmost boundary:
The Mt. Diablo Base Line (red line running east to west on map) - which is approximately 2 miles south of Pioche and 12 miles south of Tonopah.  The actual state borders make up the east, west, and southernmost boundaries.  This area consists of all of Clark County (where Las Vegas is located) and portions of Lincoln, Nye, and Esmeralda Counties.  Using this criteria helps keep our focus on one of our goals for this web site: to provide visual access to a concentrated amount of petroglyphs from one specific region - "Southern Nevada", vs. the entire southwest.

Out of State Rock Art Sites:  Under normal circumstances the majority of our "Out of State" rock art sites are within 30 to 40 air miles of the Nevada state border.  The small amount of "out of state sites" that we do visit are displayed for one very obvious reason, that being the people of 1,000 years ago (except for other indigenous people living in the area being visited) had few boundaries for traveling.
